Kassie McCauley
Sister
Letter to a Much Loved Brother
Happy 100th Birthday! What a wonderful day!! What a blessing!!
My one regret about being the youngest of the McCauley kids is that we were never at home together—I didn’t have the chance to learn from you, let alone disagree with you about things, or “be in trouble” together, either.
My first cherished memory is the privilege of being the “flower girl” when you and Mary were married. As a 6 year old, I thoroughly enjoyed my first wedding and reception!
Much later when I was teaching at St. Pancratius in Lakewood, CA, you were sent by RCA to Burbank to work on the Apollo 11 Project—and this gave us the wonderful opportunity to do some “brother/sister” bonding—the highlight of my time in CA! We rode and got soaked on the log-jammer at Disneyland; another time we toured Knott’s Berry Farm; and cheered for the Pirates during their game with the LA Dodgers.
I have always loved that you send me a “special sister” birthday card—and on time! And, on the occasion of my golden jubilee as a Sister of Charity, you were the first to arrive and I was honored that you and Maureen presented the gifts at this Mass.
Because of your love and keen interest in walking—No matter what; your green thumb; playing bridge; in living life fully—You continue to be my role model! I love bragging about you–and hope that that I, too, can live life fully! Happy 100th birthday, Ed, “Der Alte”—I am with you in love, prayers, and spirit!
